Today we want to share with you the interview that our representative Víctor did with Marc Gascons, the Managing Director at COMPOXI, a high-tech company located in Spain, that specializes in advanced materials and composites. We discussed about their ability to offer a complete package of services, from design and engineering to the manufacture and testing of prototypes and series production and how their multidisciplinary team has been able to tackle the different space missions. Víctor (Firius): Good morning, Marc. Thank you for taking the time to talk with us today. Could you tell us a little about your company, Compoxi, and what sets you apart from other companies in your industry?
Marc Gascons: Thank you for having me. COMPOXI is a high-tech company located in Girona, Spain, that specializes in advanced materials and composites. We are a dynamic and innovative company that provides customized solutions for our clients in different sectors such as Space, Aeronautics and Renewable Energies. We have a multidisciplinary team that includes experts in materials science, mechanical engineering, and manufacturing processes.
Our customers really value our ability to offer a complete package of services, from the design and engineering of advanced composite structures to the manufacture and testing of prototypes and series production.
We remain as a very dynamic and energetic team. That’s also high value for our contractors, allows us to maximize our contribution to their projects and become key partners.
Víctor (Firius): I understand that COMPOXI has been involved in some space projects. Could you tell us a little more about those?
Marc Gascons: Yes, we have collaborated in many space missions since almost 10 years already! We have products flying near the sun in the Solar Orbiter satellite, parts in the Exomars rovers and almost a thousand parts movind around the earch in LEO and GEO orbits
We are also involved in the development of new materials and manufacturing processes for space applications, including radiation-resistant composites and ultra-lightweight structures. Our goal is to contribute to the advancement of space exploration and to support the development of sustainable space technologies.
Víctor (Firius): What are you most proud of as a company?
Marc Gascons: We are proud of our ability to innovate and adapt to the changing needs of our customers. The team are extremely flexible. We are able to work for big companies with focus on the highest quality and well-known technologies, and at the same time excel with the so called “New Space”, which requires us to constantly adjust and push the boundaries of what is possible with advanced materials and composites.
As a result of a good job done over the years, we have seen our ultra-light CFRP structure liftoff in a Falcon 9 from Cape Canaveral to the Moon, at the heart of the Rashid Rover in the UAE’s first Lunar mission.
Víctor (Firius): That’s impressive. Can you tell us a little about the history and capabilities of COMPOXI?
Marc Gascons: COMPOXI was founded in 2007. Since then, we have grown into a leading provider of advanced materials and composites for different industries. Our capabilities include the design and engineering of complex structures, the manufacture of prototypes and series production, and the testing and validation of our products.
We have a state-of-the-art facility in Girona with a complete set of composite capabilities. Having everything in-house gives us a lot of control over the process, and therefore the highest quality levels.
Starting with the engineering design capabilities, we can make composite tooling and finish the parts with our machining area and an assembly and integration room. Along the way, we have a composite laboratory, a cleanroom with an AFP machine and HLU area an autoclave for large structures. We also have a team of highly skilled professionals with expertise in materials science, mechanical engineering, and manufacturing processes.
